JAMMU, June 28: A team of social workers led by its senior executive members, Jagdish Sharma, Rajinder Kumar, Mohinder Raina, Ajay Kumar and Sahil Sharma, visited the different parts of the city to assess the cleanliness of the area and found that the drains and footpaths have been blocked by the shopkeepers.
The team visited Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, City Chowk, Jewel and Purani Mandi area and found that the footpath meant for the pedestrians have been covered by the shopkeepers. Besides, Shopkeepers have blocked the drainage system by filing up soil in the drains for their own benefits leading to diversion of dirty water on the road.
They found that there was a lot of smell near Hari Market gate, the main entrance of tourists and pilgrims, due to blockage of drainage system.
They alleged that JMC was apprised of the whole matter two months ago also but no action has been taken till now.
The team appealed the Municipal Commissioner to visit these places personally, know the reality and take appropriate action.
