It is pertinent to mention here that this year holy Navratras and holy month of Ramzan have come simultaneously and in its 11th General House Meeting (GHM) few days back, the JMC has resolved that all the meat shops in JMC areas will remain shut in Navratra days.
Earlier JMC Councillor, Shama Akhtar from Ward 71 had raised the issue in the GHM and had demanded that meat shops in some Muslim dominated areas should be allowed to open as the community members fast in the month of Ramzan and need meat in Iftaar when they open their fast.
The matter was discussed and the JMC authorities today allowed meat shops at Gujjar Nagar, Talab Khatikan, Bathindi, Sunjwan, Sidhra and Sarwal to open.
However, these shops are asked to install black glass panes/black tinted windows/curtains in front of their shops with proper covering of meat carcass with muslin cloth.
The shop owners shall ensure proper disposal of meat/chicken waste and inedible parts.
The JMC order also stated that JMC slaughter house will remain open to cater the requirement from 6:00 am to 9:00 am daily.
