Top seed Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainee, Prinkle Singh, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, defeated Trisha Vinod in the girls under-18 singles final of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Government Tennis Stadium here today.
Junior international Prinkle conceded only two games to overpower her opponent. In the first set Prinkle played high quality tennis and she hit a lot of winners and closed the set 6-2. In the second set Prinkle dominated from the first game and closed the set and match without losing a single game 6-0.
However, in the girls under-18 final, Prinkle and Vriti were beaten by Kavya Sawhney and Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa who won by 6-2, 6-0. In the girls U-16 singles final, Kavya Sawhney defeated Alisha Menon in a three setter match. In the first set Kavya Sawhney played high quality tennis and closed the set 6-4. In the second set Alisha Menon came back strongly and closed the set 6-1. In the final set Kavya retained her top form and used her experience to close the set and match without conceding a game.
Shashikant Rajput of CHART defeated Neeraj Yashpaul in straight sets in the boys under-16 final. In the first set Shashikant and Neeraj Yashpaul played high quality tennis and exchanged 8-10 rallies for every point. Finally, Shashikant won the first set 6-4. In the second set Shashikant played few serves and volleys, used his variation of ground strokes, attacking with chip and charge to break opponent’s rhythm and closed the set 6-2. Rishabh Sharda of CLTA defeated Shashikant Rajput in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the boys under-18 final. (UNI)
