J&K’s Kiran Kumar Sharma adds another feather to cap, gets National Youth Award

JAMMU, July 5: Indira Gandhi NSS Award winner Kiran Kumar Sharma of J&K added another feather to his cap by getting the National Youth Award 2011-12 by President of India Pranab Mukherjee in a function held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi recently.
The award was presented to Mr Sharma for the illustrious work done in the promotion of youth services and education in J&K since 2007.
He passed through the rigourous selection process both at State and National level where he was shortlisted and after verification by the police and other agencies declared fit for receiving the honour.
This is Sharma’s third National Award conferred by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Earlier, Sharma has been honored by the different award including Indira Gandhi NSS Award by NSS PA Cell, New Delhi and National Performance Award in Academic Session in RD Camp by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
A graduate from Government MAM College, Sharma completed his Post-Graduation from Department of Political Science and also worked as a volunteer in the Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu and NSS. He attended a dozen of top level National camps/workshops/seminars organized by Government of India and University Grant Commission of India.
He was selected in the 20 member Indian Youth Delegation for 10 Day Long International Youth Exchange programme held in South Korea and was also nominated for Country Youth Representative, Commonwealth Youth Caucus, Asia Centre in the year 2010 and 2012.
He also attended the National Youth Festival, 2012 as a guest to celebrate “Diversity in Unity” by Karnataka Government and Government of India.
