JAMMU, May 8: The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu (JKHCBAJ), held a joint press conference today at the High Court complex in Jammu in response to the prevailing situation at the Line of Control (LoC) and the broader national border scenario under “Operation Sindoor.”
The conference was organised in collaboration with Dogra Saddar Sabha, Chamber of Traders Federation, All J&K Transport Association, Brahman Sabha, and Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha.
Speaking on the occasion, JKHCBAJ President Nirmal Kotwal said the conference aimed to highlight public concerns amid rising tensions following the April 22 attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
He said that despite repeated chances given to Pakistan, terrorism has continued to thrive, pushing the region into a war-like state. He added that the global community has come forward to stand with India in this hour.
Kotwal said more than fifteen civilians had lost their lives in Poonch and many others were injured due to cross-border shelling.
He warned that if the situation worsens, civilians could face even greater losses.
Appreciating the sacrifices of the armed forces, Kotwal called upon all Bar Associations across Jammu and Kashmir to unite in support of the nation and to assist civil society and the Government in providing relief to those affected.
The JKHCBAJ also announced the establishment of a war room and legal aid cell to offer free legal assistance to verified war victims.
Additionally, a blood donation camp will be held on Friday, May 9, in the court premises.
Other speakers included Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak (Dogra Saddar Sabha), Neeraj Anand (Chamber of Traders Federation), Karan Wazir (Transport Association), Ved Parkash Sharma (Brahman Sabha), and Narain Singh (Rajput Sabha).
Office bearers and many senior and young lawyers were also present.
The gathering collectively urged the Centre and UT administration to extend all possible support to those affected in the border areas.
