JAMMU, Sept 22: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAAL) today organized a special literary event under its series “Meet the Eminent”, featuring noted writer, poet and scholar Dr Om Goswami, one of the most celebrated literary figures of the region.
The programme was marked by the formal release and discussion of Dr Goswami’s autobiography “Chete Diyaan Phuharaan”, a significant addition to Dogri literature.
Welcoming the distinguished audience, Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL, described Dr Goswami as a prolific and versatile writer who has enriched Dogri and Hindi literature with more than 150 published works, ranging across poetry, prose, fiction, literary criticism and translation. She observed that his autobiography reflects not only his personal journey but also the cultural, social and literary ethos of Jammu and Kashmir over the decades.
A paper on the book was presented by Dr Nirmal Vinod, who gave a comprehensive analysis of “Chete Diyaan Phuharaan,” highlighting its literary merit, narrative style and significance as a historical document. He noted that the work goes beyond personal memoirs and serves as an authentic record of contemporary Dogri literary movement.
Another paper was read by Vijay Verma, who dwelt upon the life, experiences and contributions of Goswami.
On the occasion, Goswami himself shared insights into his literary journey, recalling various phases of his creative life, the struggles he faced, and the inspirations that shaped his writing. His reflections offered the audience a rare glimpse into the making of a writer deeply rooted in his culture and language.
Adding a cultural touch to the event, a melodious Dogri geet penned by Dr Goswami was presented Reeta Khadyal, Editor Dogri, JKAACL. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Javaid Rahi, Divisional Head , JKAACL, Jammu .
