J&K UT Athletics C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Aug 30: The two-day 24th J&K UT Athletics Championship-2026 concluded at the Synthetic Athletics Track, University of Jammu, with Ritik Singh of Jammu, a decathlete and Aamir Faiz Khan of Poonch, a long jumper, being declared the Best Athletes of the championship.

Organised by the J&K Amateur Athletics Association under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India and J&K Sports Council, in collaboration with the University of Jammu and the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, the championship witnessed participation of around 800 athletes from across the Union Territory.

Competitions were held in Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 and Open categories for boys and girls. The closing ceremony was attended by Monish Kumar, Divisional Sports Officer (Central), J&K Sports Council and Rajiv Sharma. The dignitaries distributed medals and certificates among the winners and congratulated the athletes for their performances.

Sharat Chander Singh, General Secretary, J&K Amateur Athletics Association acknowledged the contribution of senior association members Ravinder Singh, Vinod Bhatia and Rajesh Kumar, besides technical officials and J&K Police Athletics coaches Tahir and Reyaz Ahmed.

Among the first-position holders in the track events, Sunil Kumar of Udhampur won the Under-20 5000m and 3000m titles, while Wajid Ali of Poonch topped the Under-18 400m. Shaz Ali Mir won the Under-18 1000m, Sidharth of Jammu the Under-20 100m, and Toyaid Shad of Jammu the Under-18 100m. Abrar Choudhary claimed the Open 400m and 200m titles, while Anshuman Aryan of Doda won the Under-20 800m. Darshan Kumar of Kathua won the Under-18 800m, Sourabh Sharma of Udhampur the Under-20 1500m, and Ajay Kumar of Kathua the Open 10km. Tahir Aziz of Kupwara topped the Open 5000m, Vikas Sharma of Jammu won the Open 100m, Rudra Rajan the Under-16 600m, Rajveer of Jammu the Under-20 400m, Sidharth Dogra of Jammu the Under-20 200m, and Yuvraj Singh of Jammu the Under-16 60m.

In field events, Dhananjay of Jammu won the Under-16 shot put, Sayed Faeiz of Poonch the Under-18 long jump, Vishal Kumar of Jammu the Under-18 triple jump, Aaqib Ali Dar of Baramulla the Open triple jump, Digvijay Singh of Samba the Under-20 long jump, Vishav Pratap of Jammu the Under-18 discus throw, Ayush Kumar of Doda the Under-20 discus throw, Alok of Doda the Under-18 high jump, Sulakshya Singh the Open discus throw and javelin throw winner, Advik Jyoti Kumar of Jammu the Under-16 high jump, Krishna Padha of Samba the Under-18 shot put, Aryan Dev Singh of Jammu the Under-20 shot put, Dinesh Singh of Kathua the Under-20 high jump, Mohd. Saleem of Jammu the Open shot put, Aamir Faiz Khan of Poonch the Open long jump, Gourav Sharma of Jammu the Under-20 javelin throw, Krishna Saini the Under-18 javelin throw and Udhav Sargotra of Jammu the Under-16 javelin throw.

Among women, Samreen Kour of Jammu won the Open shot put, Yashmita Thakur of Jammu the Under-16 javelin throw, Asma Jaben the Under-20 javelin throw, Akshara of Jammu the Under-18 long jump, Saika Nasreen of Poonch the Under-20 long jump, Eshana of Jammu the Under-16 long jump, Akshita Verma the Under-20 shot put, Bhumika Jamwal of Jammu the Under-18 shot put, Adeena Batool of Jammu the Under-16 shot put and Akshara Parihar of Doda the Under-18 discus throw.

In women's track events, Kriti Devi of Udhampur won the Under-20 3000m, Salma Devi of Udhampur the Open 5000m, Radhika Gupta of Kishtwar the Under-16 60m and 600m, Aishwarya Sharma the Under-16 2000m, Deepakshi Sothra of Kathua the Under-18 400m, Sania Mumtaz of Jammu the Under-18 100m and 200m, Sunita Devi of Reasi the Under-18 1000m, Fanja Devi of Reasi the Open 200m and Jhanvi Sharma of Samba the Under-20 200m.
