J&K Para judoka Adiba selected for IBSA Grand Prix

JAMMU, July 8: In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir, visually impaired para judoka Adiba Choudhary has been selected to represent India at the IBSA Grand Prix 2026, scheduled to be held in São Paulo, Brazil, from July 8 to 12.

Daughter of Mustaq Ahmed and a resident of Tehsil Mendhar in Poonch district, Adiba is among the 12 members of the Indian contingent, comprising eight visually impaired judokas and four officials. Ahead of the international event, she will undergo a 15-day national coaching camp at the Para Judo Academy, Lucknow. The Indian contingent will be accompanied by officials of the Indian Blind and Para Judo Association (IBPJA), who will oversee the team's participation and provide logistical and technical support during the championship.

Adiba secured her place in the national team after winning a silver medal at the 14th National Para Judo Championship held at Shri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Her current ranking in Asia is 6th.

She has been training for the past seven years under the guidance of Chief Judo Coach Suraj Bhan Singh of the J&K Sports Council. Her consistent performances, dedication and disciplined approach have earned her recognition at the national level and paved the way for her international debut. Adiba completed her schooling at the Sightless School for Girls, Roop Nagar, Jammu, and is currently pursuing her studies at Prade College for Women, Jammu.

Her selection has been widely welcomed by the sports fraternity, which described it as a significant achievement for Jammu & Kashmir and an inspiration for aspiring para athletes. They extended their congratulations and best wishes to Adiba, expressing confidence that she will perform well and bring laurels to the country at the prestigious international competition.
