SRINAGAR, Oct 10: After winning their first match against Gujarat convincingly by two goals to nil (2-0) yesterday, Jammu and Kashmir boys today lost to formidable Punjab by the same margin to be out of the race for last eight stages as the quarterfinals position has been cleared in the 61st National School Games Under-19 Boys Football Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) here.
This sporting extravaganza, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed alongwith Union Sports Minister, Saarbananda Sonowal and Minister for Sports, Moulvi Imran Nisar Ansari, is being organized under the overall supervision of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Jehangir Mir.
Punjab, KVS, Haryana, NVS, Kerala, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Delhi have entered the quarterfinals which be played tomorrow.
In the quarterfinals, Kerala will lock horns with Punjab, KVS will take on Rajasthan, Haryana will face Maharashtra and NVS will meet Delhi.
Earlier, in the pool matches played today, Uttarakhand got better of Delhi by two goals to one (2-1), Kerala trounced MP by (3-0), Chandigarh thrashed Chhattisgarh by (7-1), KVS defeated Puducherry by (4-1), Odisha beat UP by (2-1), Rajasthan blanked Telangana by (3-0), Punjab prevailed over J&K by (2-0), HP outplayed Chhattisgarh by (2-0), KVS outclassed CBSE by (2-1), UP held Goa to (0-0) draw, Tamil Nadu drubbed Karnataka by (5-1), Uttarakhand defeated Daman Diu by (2-1) and Haryana prevailed over Jharkhand by (2-0).
The matches are being officiated by a penal of experts drawn from the Department of Youth Services and Sports and School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
