J&K lifts twin handball national titles

SRINAGAR, Oct 11: Scripting convincing wins over formidable Delhi and Haryana teams in the title clashes, J&K won twin national handball titles of 29th Sub Junior Boys and 14th Mini Girls, organized by J&K Handball Association, under the aegis of Handball Federation of India at indoor Sports Complex, here today.
Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone was the chief guest on the occasion, while Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services & Sports,  RS Chib was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Lone said that the sportsmen of J&K State have always shown their excellent performance across the globe and have proven their potential and talent by participating in various sports events at national and at international level.
The Speaker was addressing a galaxy of sports lovers and participants at concluding function of 29th Sub-Junior (Boys) and 14th Mini (Girls) National handball Championship 2012 which commenced from 6th of this month and concluded today.
Lone highly appreciated the efforts of organizers for their effort in holding such events in Valley. He also said that Government is committed to promote sports culture in the State.
Lone also appreciated the players who had come from other states of the country and participated in the championship with full zeal and enthusiasm.
Lone recalled the contribution of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for constructing Indoor Stadium in Srinagar and urged upon the Government to renovate the Stadium for the betterment of sports sector.
R S Chib also spoke on the occasion and applauded all participants for performing their best talent in the National Handball Championship in the Valley. He appealed youth to participate in sports with positive approach.
Chib expressed his gratitude to the Handball Federation of India and J&K Handball Association for organizing such big event in Indoor Stadium Srinagar after a long gap of two decades.
Director Youth Services and Sports, Jaipal Singh, SSP Srinagar, Ashiq Bukhari, Secretary General Handball Federation of India, Dr SM Bali, Vice President SGFI and Senior Vice President J&K Handball Association, Ashok Kumar,  Secretary J&K Handball Association, Aswani Kumar Raina, Participants and a galaxy of sports lovers were present on the occasion.
The function concluded with a prize distribution ceremony in which trophies and medals were distributed among all the participants.
