JAMMU, Sept 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has authorized gazetted officers from the Police and Excise departments, along with field officials from the Revenue Department, to intensify anti-drug drive in the region.
As per a notification issued by Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department, all Gazetted Officers of the J&K Excise Department, and specific Revenue officials including Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners Revenue, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, territorial Tehsildars, and territorial Naib Tehsildars are now empowered to exercise statutory search, seizure, and arrest powers within their respective territorial jurisdictions.
The authorization was granted to them under sub-section (2) of Section 41 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the notification said.
