JAMMU, Mar 7: The folk artists of Jammu and Kashmir left the audience spell bound on the inaugural day of the 3-days Folk and Tribal Music and Dance Festival being organized by South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC), Tanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with the All India Radio Madikeri and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in Gandhi Maidan, Madikeri, Karnataka.
Dr EN Sajith, Director SZCC, Tanjavur, presided over the festival, which was inaugurated by Dr AS Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Pushpavathi, Commissioner, TML, Madikeri, Indra Gajaraj, Former Station, Director, AIR, Madikeri and coordinator of the festival, Nagendra, All India Radio, MS Programme Executives AIR Madikeri were also present on the presidium.
While giving his presidential speech, Dr EN Sajith said that SZCC organizing Folk Festival since 27 years and now they got opportunity to organize 3-Days Folk and Tribal Music and Dance Festival 2015 here at Madikeri, in which more than 150 artists from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were invited to perform with the folk and tribal artists of Coorg region covering Madikeri, Virajepet and Somarvarpet districts.
He said that such interactive festivals help in strengthening National Integration through cultural exchange between different States.
Dr AS Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL, in his speech expressed gratitude to Director SZCC and Station Director, AIR Madikeri for providing an opportunity to the artists of J&K not only to perform at Madikeri, Karnataka but also witnessing the folk and tribal dances of Coorg region of Karnataka.
Pushpavathi, Commissioner, TMC, Madikeri and Indira Gajaraj, Former Station, Director, AIR, Madikeri and coordinator of the festival also spoke on the occasion.
The artists of J&K and Karnataka performed various items including Musical Fusion by Saazina, Noor-ul-Nisa and Party presented Gojiri folk song, Mudappa and Party presented Pareya Kali, Kasturi Lal and Party presented Dogri Geetru, Aashiq Hussain and Party presented Bachnagma Kashmiri, Zindadil and party presented by Pahari Folk Dance, Mohan Lal and party presented Gagauli Dance, Alamdar Bhagat Theatre presented Bandpathar, YB Gappu and Party presented Chinni Dudi and feature, Jackson and party presented Dogri Folk Dance, Shakur Shah and party presented Damali Dance, Lundup CATS and Party presented Jabbro Ladakhi Dance, Amreena Bhat and Party presented Kashmiri Rouff Dance and the last Mani and the Party presented Vaalaga.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Madikeri AIR Announcers Shardhha Nanjappa, Subraya Sampaje and Chandramma SK.
In the end, vote of thanks was presented by Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary/SOCA-G1, JKAACL.
