JioPC turns old computers into AI-ready devices

JAMMU, Sept 2: Reliance Jio has expanded its JioPC service, allowing users across India to turn existing computers into cloud-powered, AI-ready devices without purchasing new hardware or upgrading internal components.

Previously available only to JioHome broadband subscribers, JioPC is now offered as a standalone subscription to anyone with an internet connection, irrespective of their telecom or broadband provider. The service enables users to access up to 16GB RAM and 1TB cloud storage through their existing computer.

The service is particularly aimed at users with three- to four-year-old computers that have slowed down, run out of storage or are operating on outdated software. Jio said the cloud-based offering can also enable computers as old as eight years to handle the performance requirements of modern AI-powered applications, with computing-intensive processing taking place in the cloud.

JioPC can be activated in less than five minutes and does not require data migration, new hardware installation or downtime, providing an alternative to replacing ageing computers or undertaking expensive hardware upgrades.

The company said the service addresses the growing challenge of ageing computers in homes, schools and small businesses, where existing devices may no longer meet the requirements of modern, AI-enabled software.

JioPC is available in two plans. The standard JioPC provides 8GB RAM and 500GB storage, while JioPC Ultra offers 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. For two months, the plans cost Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,200 respectively. The five-month plans are priced at Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500, while the 10+2 month plans cost Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000. All prices include GST.

The service requires a stable internet connection, including broadband or reliable 4G/5G connectivity, for smooth operation. Jio said the offering is designed to help consumers extend the usable life of existing computers while gaining access to enhanced computing capabilities.
