Sir,
Jammu is linked to other parts of the country with sufficient number of trains. Jammu-Mumbai-Jammu railway route is one of the most busy routes and like other train routes the passenger traffic on this route is also increasing day by day. The Swaraj Express is the only train running between the two cities which are among the most visited cities of the country. This train was introduced about two decades ago and since then it is serving the passengers of this route with a frequency of four days a week. During this period there has been manifold increase in number of passengers on this route but no new train has been introduced between these two cities. There is long waiting list of passengers who are required to travel on this route. A good number of youth of this region have gone and are going regularly to Mumbai for educational or employment purposes. Number of pilgrims to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnath Shrines have shown a big increase from this western part of the country. All this has necessitated for addition of at least one more train on this route to cope with the increasing rush of passengers. Recently, one weekly train named Vivek Express was introduced for Mumbai but the same is not sufficient as compared to the increased number of passengers. It is therefore requested to the Railway authorities that the frequency of Swaraj Express should at least be increased from the existing four days to seven days of the week so that people can travel without mental agony.
Yours etc….
