Jammu Heritage Dev Society frames 6 Sub-Committees

JAMMU, Sept 17: With the prime objective to highlight  Jammu’s rich cultural heritage and ensure development and preservation of old shrines, forts and other historical ancient buildings of the region, the newly constituted Jammu Heritage Development Society comprising prominent members from civil society today announced six sub-committees for the purpose.
Chairman of the Society, former Minister and president, Dogra Saddar Sabha  Th Gulchain Singh Charak formally announced the committees at a press conference in presence of senior society members, Y V Sharma president Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, B S Slathia president Bar Association Jammu and Yash Paul Gupta, president Associated Chamber of Traders Federation here today.
These members vowed to work for the conservation and development of Mubarak Mandi heritage site, Bahu Fort, Reasi, Ram Nagar, Jasrota, Hira Nagar and Akhnoor forts,  Purmandal-Utterbehni, Ambaran and other historical sites besides religious shrines like Shiv Khori, Sudh- Mahadev, Dera Nangali Sahib, Shahdara Sharief, Sukrala Mata, Sarthal, Machhil and their projection. They said after the train will go to Katra, majority of Mata Vaishnodevi pilgrims will go straightway there. So, beautification of Jammu and development of its heritage sites was must to attract them. They regretted that pace of work at Mubarak Mandi has been stopped and no meeting of the Governing body of the Heritage Society led by Chief Minister took place in last two years. They also stressed for the revival of Jammu festival. No meetings of society are being held on regular basis and despite having Rs 100 cr funds provided by Centre, the work at Mubarak Mandi has been stopped for the last one year. They described it as conspiracy against Jammu. They also demanded to speed up work on artificial Tawi lake and Gandola projects in Jammu city.
The sub-committees announced by Mr Charak are:  Public Relations Sub- Committee with Y V Sharma as its convenor, Legal and Drafts Sub-Committee with B S Slathia as its convenor, Cultural Heritage Sub-Committee with Balwant Thakur as its convenor, Technical Affairs Sub-Committee with Vinod Malhotra as convenor, Administration & Finance Sub-Committee with Y V Sharma as convenor, Heritage Properties Protection & Monitoring Sub-committee with Maj Gen (Retd) G S Jamwal as its convenor. G S Charak himself is the convenor of 21-member Executive Committee of the JHDS.
