JAMMU, Nov 30: Eleven-year-old twins from Jammu, Aryan and Rohan Gupta have successfully concluded a campaign to donate mobile phones and tablets to underprivileged children who were facing difficulty in attending online classes during the pandemic.
The young duo raised close to Rs 2 lakhs from family, friends and the online community and donated 28 mobile devices to underprivileged children across Jammu belonging to orphanages and Government schools. Out of the 28 beneficiaries, 17 were girl students.
Aryan and Rohan, sons of Ruchika Gupta and Dr Ankur Gupta from Residency Road, Jammu are students of class 6th. As they started attending online classes during the pandemic, they were deeply impacted by news of students across the country who could not attend online classes due to lack of access to mobile devices.
They also learnt that parents were more inclined to provide phones to their sons rather than daughters. Then, they decided to do something about it and thought about donating their savings to help the children in need, but the amount was insignificant.
An online campaign was initiated on a popular crowd sourcing platform and they put out a video message exhorting people to donate to the cause. The message went viral and the cause resonated with people. Aryan and Rohan were quickly able to raise close to Rs 2 lakhs from friends, family and the online community. Donors from all over the world supported the little philanthropists in their pursuit.
From the raised funds, the duo procured and distributed 28 mobile phones and tablets to students from under-privileged backgrounds in the region after meeting with the officials and identifying the students most in need. Their campaign which lasted over 2 months left a deep impact on them and the beneficiary students.
Aryan and Rohan expressed delight at the outcome of their campaign and they desire to continue working for social causes close to their heart.
