JAMMU, June 12: To express their anger against the discriminatory attitude of Prasar Bharti Corporation of India  (PBCI) the producers, writers, artists and technocrats of Jammu region took to streets and held a massive demonstration here, today.
The fraternity members who assembled at Below Gumat and proceeded towards Press Club Jammu covering their mouths with black strips and taking pla-cards in their hands showed their total resentment against the Prasar Bharti and Information and Broadcasting Ministry Government of India. They were furious against the controversial guidelines framed by Prasar Bharti for submitting the proposals for DD Kashir channel and Doordarshan.
Later talking to reporters the representatives of Joint Action Committee (JAC) Jammu Based Producers, Directors, Writers, Artists and Technocrats said the Kashir Channel was launched with great fanfare a few years ago with an aim to promote and project the rich cultural heritage of the entire State of J&K. Another laudable aim of this regional channel was to provide a platform for the talented producers, directors, writers , artists and technicians of the all the three regions of the State to showcase their talent on this Channel, they added.
They said since in the new guidelines (2017), there is no mention of regional languages programmes like Dogri, Pahari, Balti, Gojri, Bhaderwahi,Sheena etc, so such languages be incorporated in the guidelines.
Terming the guidelines totally controversial they said the guidelines also mentioned that 50 percent of total budget shall be allocated to the outsider producers (Non J&K Producers) as has been against 25 percent in the previous guidelines. Therefore 75 percent budget should be allocated for the producers belonging to J&K, so that more people from the State are entitled, since it is a regional channel.
As per these guidelines the producers submitting the proposals for DD Kashir should have produced at least 25 hours programmes during last three years whereas this public broadcasting service did no commissioning of programmes for the last seven years, they said, adding the demand of 25 hours programme produced by producers of the State be withdrawn immediately.
The representatives of JAC said since this is public broadcasting service and therefore more and more public needs to be involved in the day to day productions as per the requirement chart of broadcasting service.
