J&K’s Saleem creates history; enters 7th World Wushu C’ship finals

JAMMU, July 15: Saleem Kumar of Jammu and Kashmir created history by becoming the firsr player from the State to seal berth in the final of the ongoing 7th World Wushu Championship, being held at Brazil.
He defeated Egypt athlete in the semifinals and will play Iran in the final late today.
J&K’s two players namely Naved Farooq and Saleem Kumar were selected for this Junior World Wushu Championship.
Naveed lost quarterfinal bout against Vietnam while Saleem defeated Uruguay, Brazil and Egypt to seal berth in the finals of the 48kg Junior World Wushu Championship.
“Hailing from Budgam, Saleem Kumar is a promising player of the State and possesses all that is required to blossom at the highest level, if provided proper facilities,” said Kuldeep Handoo, Chief Wushu Coach of the Country.
It is pertinent to mention here that four players of the Indian Junior Wushu team have reached into the finals of the 7th Junior World Wushu Championship including Saleem Kumar, Deepak Munda, Savita and Himanshu.
