JAMMU, Oct 14: To protest against the fascist attack on 14th National Conference of Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) held at Indore from October 2 to 4, the J&K chapter of IPTA along with Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Duggar Kala Manch and Amateur Theatre Group held a protest at Rani Park, here today.
The speakers condemned the attack and termed it as an attack on the freedom of expression and progressive culture movement. “IPTA was formed in the pre-independence era in 1943 and has been engaged in meaningful theatre for the general masses since its inception. It is the only theatre organization which has participated in the freedom struggle and many of its stalwarts were jailed during the freedom movement”, they said.
“In the present scenario, IPTA is against war and does not support the politics of oppression of one nation over another. The only way to bring peace in the world is through love and compassion”, the speakers said, adding, IPTA dreams for ‘a beautiful world for all’ and is striving hard to achieve this through its varied art forms.
They said that the recent attack on IPTA’s conference at Indore is yet another attempt to subjugate the saner voice. Later, IPTA Jammu artists performed revolutionary songs.
The protesting artists were addressed by Advocate Hari Chand Jhalmeria (president, Duggar Kala Manch), Dr Baljeet Singh Raina (general secretary, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha), Hardeep Singh Deep (president, IPTA, J&K Chapter), Devinder Singh Vishawanagrik (president, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha) and many others.
