JAMMU, Dec 10: National Human Rights and State Social Justice Council, J&K organized a function here today to observe the International Human Rights Day.
Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaker presented lifetime achievement award under Humanitarian Awards to the renowned social personalities Des Raj Danish and Dev Raj Baru for their selfless social services.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta stressed upon the people to be conscious of their rights and responsibilities towards the society. He expressed hope that dedicated social workers will continue their services for the cause of humanity with same spirit and zeal.
He also presented awards to other social activists including Rubina Mir, Anil Padha, Girish Raizada, Abdul Aziz Bali, Sudhir Katyal, Brij Mohan, Tasleem Kousar, Dr Romesh, Dr Rohin, Dr Ashish, Anand Dubey, Devendra and Manik Mangotra.
Former MLC Asgar Ali, Executive Director National Human Rights J&K MI Zargar, social activists and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga said women empowerment is a key to social development and the need is to provide quality education to girl child from the brining.
Speaking at Human Rights Day function jointly organized by All Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Teacher Federation and Government Girl Higher Secondary School Bishnah, the Minister said that education is not only to impart information and to teach skills to the students but also to inculcate the values of humanism, democracy, socialism, secularism and national integration.
“Women empowerment is a key to social development and the need is to provide quality education, vocational training and health services to women and girls,” he said.
Forum for Human Rights and Social Justice, a non-government organization organized a program to celebrate Human Rights Day. On the occasion, Justice (Retd) GD Sharma was chief guest whereas Jang Bahadur, Member Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission was guest of honour and Abhinav Sharma, Senior Advocate and President, J&K High Court Bar Association was special guest.
While speaking, Jang Bahadur said that the need of the hour is to reach last person of the society and educate him about his Human Rights and the State Human Rights Commission is committed to encourage people to come forward to raise issues of Human Rights violations in the society.
Abhinav Sharma while addressing the gathering advocated for inclusion of lawyers as members of the State and National Human Rights commission.
Justice GD Sharma recited various Sanskrti Shalokas of Vedas and said protection of Human Rights is what our Dharma, the religion teaches. He urged upon the citizens to come forward and collectively pledge to defend Human Rights of every last person of the society.
SS Nanda, Senior Additional Advocate General and Settler Trustee of the organization presented mementos to the guests. Dr Dushant Gupta presented vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Kaushal Bhasin.
J&K State Human Rights Commission Sub-Office Jammu observed International Human Rights Day in its office at Trikuta Nagar.
Learned Member, SHRC, Jangbahadur Singh Jamwal presided over the function and inaugurated the programme.
While speaking, Jamwal presented detail about the history of the day. He advised the staff members to observe respectful ethics while in office or outside. He further advised to spread the Human Rights literacy among the common people and encourage them to come forward in case of violation of their rights. He also advised to support and facilitate the people for redressal of their grievances.
At the conclusion of the function, all the staff members took pledge to make their best effort to emancipate the society from the menace of Human Rights violation and endeavour to bring a stage when the society may be called as “Human Rights Violation Free Society”.
NSS Units of Government Degree College Udhampur observed the International Human Rights Day under the guidance of Dr Udhey Bhanu and Prof Suresh Kumar Dogra, NSS Programme Officers. On the occasion Prof SS Bhalwal, Principal of the College addressed the students. He asked the students to observe and promote the values of Human Rights. He also advised the students to create awareness among the common masses about their rights which they are inherited by virtue of being humans. Prof Hans Raj Sharma was main resource person who deliberated in detail about the history and importance of Human Rights. He covered all the aspects of Human Rights in his power point presentation. On the occasion faculty member of various departments were also present.
Various Sikh Bodies including Sikh Intellections Circle, International Sikh Federation, Sikh Students Federation and Sikh Welfare Front have expressed concern over large scale Human Rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and have demanded Special United Nation-Envoy for Kashmir to investigate large scale Human Rights violations and blatant violation of international norms and laws in Indian occupied Kashmir.
On the occasion of International Human Rights day, a meeting by senior leaders of these organizations including Amarjit Singh, Ranjit Singh, Manmohan Singh, Dervinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Daljit Singh, Manjit Singh, Inder Singh and other activists was held under the chairmanship of Narinder Singh Khalsa and it was unanimously resolved to aware the International Community about the plight of Kashmiris in the wake of large scale Human Rights violations. They expressed concern over the denial of justice to minority Sikh community in J&K by not implementing Ansari Commission Report in 1989 Anti- Sikh riots, killing of 18 innocent Sikhs at Talwara Reasi in 1984, killing of 36 innocents Sikhs in 2000 at Chithisingpora (Kashmir) and killing of Jasjeet Singh in June 2015 at Jammu.
