JAMMU, Feb 15: Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital in collaboration with IAP J&K State Branch and NGO Support Rotary Community Corps (RCC Support) headed by Dr Navneet Kour, AMANAT health initiative by Ritu Singh, teams of Rotary Jammu Tawi and Rotary Bahu organized a function for the Cancer Kids to mark the International Childhood Cancer Day.
Many organizations such as Cuddles, Can Kids -Kids Can, Sparkels Women Club, Hope Foundation, Care Foundation, Indian Society for Blood Transfusion and Immuno Haematology (ISBTI) J&K Chapter, Young Blood Association, PoJK Displaced Peoples Front and Pioneer Advertising and Marketing Group, working and contributing for this noble cause all the year around, participated in the function with great enthusiasm.
The event started by reciting the ‘Maha Mrityunjay Jap’ invoking the blessings for the longevity and good health for the children undergoing treatment for the cancer in the Pediatric Oncology Ward, following by interaction with children and their families, doctors and nurses. Distribution of lunch in lunch boxes, books, drawing books, colours and refreshments in the beautifully decorated Oncology Ward was done on the occasion.
Ritu Singh motivated all present there and complimented the faculty on their committed work towards the same. She purposed for collaborative effort to strengthen the Government efforts by appealing to the civil society to come forward and contribute to provide a sustainable support system and offered to bridge the gap between citizens and Government hospitals’ infrastructure through collaborations.
Another function was done in the auditorium of SMGS Hospital which had a great participation of series of cultural performances by the cancer kids and the cancer survivor kids who have won the battle of their lives.
Prof Dr GS Saini (HoD Pediatric), gave the welcome address and briefed about the workings of the Pediatric wing of the Onco Kids. Prof Dr Sanjeev Digra (Consultant & Incharge Pediatric Onco & Thalassemia wards) spoke upon the cancer care available in the Hospital.
Certificates of appreciation and mementoes were distributed on the occasion by Dr Navneet Kour (founder chairperson of NGO Support).
NSS volunteers of Govt College of Education Jammu under the guidance of Prof. Sarita Dogra NSS Programme Officer and Dr. Shubhra Jamwal distributed light refreshments and gifts to children.
