KATHUA, May 22: The Department of Youth Services and Sports organized Inter-Zonal Tournament at Hiranagar in which players from 12 zones of the district are participating.
MLC, Subash Gupta, was the chief guest on the occasion.
The MLC said that government has taken various initiatives to create a conducive atmosphere for the sportspersons of the state with emphasis on raising advanced sports infrastructure and training in potential games in reputed national and international institutes during the past few years. He appealed the youth to give sports good time along with studies to polish their personality.
During the event, Barnoti emerged as winner whereas Marheen zone as runner up in Kabaddi under 17 in both Boys & Girls category while Hiranagar beat lakahnpur in under 14 Kabaddi boys category and Kathua zone thrashed Lakhanpur in Kabaddi under 14 category for girls.
In Kho – Kho, Sallan zone beat Hiranagar in under 17 boys category while Sallan zone thrashed Billawar zone in under 17 Kho- Kho girls. Besides, in under 14 category Kho-Kho matches for both the categories of girls and boys, Sallan zone outplayed Kathua zone by handsome margin.
The MLC Gupta also gave away trophies to the victorious teams.
