India-Pak animosity affects people of J&K: Farooq

SRINAGAR, July 19: Former Chief Minister and President of National Conference (NC), Dr Farooq Abdullah, today lashed out at communal forces in the country and said that “this is not the India we know”. He said that some forces in the country don’t want India-Pakistan friendship and their animosity affects the people of the State.
Abdullah said that India is a secular country which treats all religions equally but there are some forces which want to change this nature of the country. “This is not the India we know. The India we know is secular which treats all the religions equally. People of all religions; Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Christians have equal rights in India. But some people are trying to change the secular nature of our country. Let us pray for safety from God against such forces”, he said.

The NC president said that Muslims in India are being brutally killed.  “There has been a rise in communal tensions in our country and Muslims are being brutally killed everywhere”, he said.
Abdullah said that some people in the country have turned into beasts. “Some people who have turned into beasts think they are everything to this country and rest doesn’t matter”, he said.
The NC president said that some forces in the country don’t want peace in Kashmir as their business thrives on deaths. “The forces that do not want peace in Kashmir still exist here. Their business thrives on our deaths”, he said.
Abdullah said that some forces don’t want India-Pakistan friendship. “These forces are also against the dialogue and friendship between India and Pakistan and that affects us as well”, he said.
The NC president spoke this at a condolence meeting in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
Dr Farooq and NC vice president Omar Abdullah today visited the residence of former Minister and senior party leader Mir Saifullah in Kupwara and expressed solidarity with him and his family on the demise of his brother, Ghulam Mohuiddin Mir.
Farooq and Omar were accompanied by NC Additional general secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, district president Kupwara and MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, party treasurer Sardar Shammi Singh Oberoi, Political Advisor Tanvir Sadiq, former MLC Nasir Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Sultan Wani, YNC district President Zahid Mughal and various functionaries of the party’s parent and youth wing.
