India, China remain engaged in talks

JAMMU, June 15: Indian and Chinese armies remained engaged in talks at military level to further disengage in Eastern Ladakh where two sides are in eyeball-to-eyeball position though there has been withdrawal of troops by both the sides at three places last week.
Official sources told the Excelsior that talks are being held between Army officials of the two countries at different levels almost regularly for further de-escalation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.
“The talks are moving in positive direction,’’ they said, adding that further withdrawal of troops by both the countries from LAC at other places was also on cards.
The disengagement by the Chinese troops in Galwan Valley, Patrolling Point 15 and Hot Springs points took place last week. The Indian Army had also reciprocated the gesture.
Despite withdrawal at three places, sources said both the armies remained engaged in aggressive posturing in areas such as Pangong Tso, Daulat Beg Oldie and Demchok and there will be a series of negotiations in the next few days to explore a solution to end the confrontation.
They said a sizeable number of Chinese troops are still present in the Galwan Valley area which was strongly objected to by India.
Indian military teams are already in Chushul and are coordinating with the senior officials on talks between military officials of the two countries.
Tension between the two sides sharply escalated after reports of skirmishes between soldiers in the Pangong Lake region on May 5 and 6.
