JAMMU, July 10: JKPCC Vice President and former Minister, Raman Bhalla on Saturday appealed Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and other local bodies to put in place all the arrangements well in time to ensure people don’t suffer in rainy season.
“All chocked drains and nallahs need to be cleared to ensure smooth flow of rainwater. There is an urgent need to carry out de-silting of major nallahs and drains in the city ahead of monsoon,” he said after visiting Rajeev Nagar, Kalika Colony, Gorakh Nagar, Qasim Nagar and adjoining areas to review preparations by JMC in the wake of forthcoming monsoon season.
Bhalla urged the Government to include Rajeev Nagar in JMC and added that hygienic condition of Rajeev Nagar is worse despite the fact that it is hardly 2-3 km from Jammu city.
“Poor residents of Rajeev Nagar belong to the downtrodden section of society are neglected with regard to development,” he maintained.
The Congress leader said that street lights should be installed in Rajeev Nagar and a health centre should also be sanctioned for the locality.
He appealed the public to plant more and more saplings in their localities as well as on banks of the nallahs to make the environment eco-friendly.
Prominent among those who accompanied Bhalla were block Congress president, Jatinder Singh Chib; Latish Sharma, Ward 48 president; Deewan Chand, Ward 47 president; Gagan Baral, Panch; Master Paras Ram, Madam Harvinder Kour, Kala Ram, Parbat Baba, Vishal, Ajay and others.
