JAMMU, Oct 1: An impressive Moharram procession was taken out in the city to pay tributes to the martyrs of Karbala Imam Hussain the grand son of Prophet Mohammad and his 72 companions who had laid their lives at Karbala for the sake of Islam and truth. The Majalis procession was taken out from Ahaata Peer Mitha Sofi Shaha in which large number of mourners across the region participated.
A Majalis was organized before the procession in which Molana Sheikh Mohammad Askri, secretary Ulema-e- Hind, Imam Jumma-wal- Jammat Haidery Hall, Delhi addressed the gathering. He said that Ashura symbolizes the struggle against the cruelty, injustice and tyranny of Yazeed. He further added that Imam Hussain achieved martyrdom because of his devotion to eternal truth.
The mourners were reciting Nohas and Marsiah during the procession. The procession after passing through the traditional route i.e Lakhdatta Bazaar, Rajinder Bazaar, Shaheedi Chowk, Wazarat Road and culminated at Karbala Complex where Majlis Sham-e-Ghariban was delivered by Molana Sheikh Mohammad Askri ,Secretary Ulema-e- Hind, Imam Jumma-wal- Jammat Haidery Hall, Delhi.
A procession was also taken out from New Plot by Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot that later merged with the main procession at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Peer Mitha.
Addressing media President Anjuman-e-Imamia, Jammu Syed Amanat Ali Shah said that “we should learn the lesson from the teachings of Imam Hussain and his companions in Karbala”. He further added that this sacrifice was the greatest sacrifice as quoted by many scholars from different faiths. He said battle of Karbala is a struggle of truth against falsehood, the battle against injustice and cruelty, the battle against the tyranny of Yazeed, the ruler of that time. Imam Hussain and his 72 companions stood against all the evils and achieved martyrdom in the battle of Karbala to safeguard the values of Islam. Ashura is a day in the history on which the blood got success over the sword, he added.
Prof. Sujat Khan secretary Anjuman-e-Imamia, Jammu while addressing media said “it is our duty to spread the message of Islam that has been gifted upon us by the Prophet Hazrat Mohammad”. He added Ashura gives a message to entire humanity that whenever truth or righteousness is being suppressed “we should keep Karbala alive in our hearts because keeping Karbala alive means keeping Islam alive”.
He complimented Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for showing concern for the arrangements regarding Moharram and Farooq Andrabi Minister for Haj and Auqaf J&K Government for convening the meeting to review the arrangements of Moharram. He also complimented Muslim Federation, Jammu Muslim Front, Rajinder Bazaar Association, Lakhdatta Bazaar, Dogra Sadar Sabha, Dharmarth Trust, Jammu Dogra warriors and to all the prominent citizens for extending their full cooperation and support during the procession by installing different stalls as refreshment for the mourners. “We also extend thanks to Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot, Anjuman-e-Hussaini Bathindi, All Ladakh Muslim Students Association Jammu (ALMSAJ), Volunteers of Shaheed Muttahiri Library New Plot and people from Poonch, Rajouri, Chanderkot, Kashmir, Ladakh and Kargil for showing exemplary discipline during the procession”.
In the last Muharram concluded with Prayer for peace, tranquility, harmony and a sense of brotherhood in the world and especially in India and its State of J&K.
The Dogra Sadar Sabha led by their President Th. Gulchain Singh Charak joined Muslim brethren in lamenting the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and joining lamentation rituals and ‘Tazia’ by paying tributes to the procession at Shaheedi Chowk in heart of Jammu City.
He was accompanied by members of Dogra Sadar Sabha, All Jammu Civil Society Forum and prominent citizen from all walks life, trades, communities and sects of society. The observances of Moharram ceremonies in India, and in particular   Jammu region attract the deep reverence and devotion for the performance of its rituals and customs by the Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Ashura procession was also taken out from Imam Bara Chanderkot in Ramban which culminated after passing through Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on evening at symbolic Karbala at Chanderkote.
In this procession hundreds of the mourners including young, old children’s Sheia Sect participated.
Scholars prominent figures of the district paid rich and glorious tributes to the Hazrat Imam Husain martyr of Karbala and his 72 companions who sacrificed their lives in battle field of Karbala with the grandson of Prophet Muhammad for the survival and dignity of Islam.
