IIM Sirmaur organises training on organic farming

JAMMU, Oct 22: The two day hands on training programme on organic farming organised by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) IIM Sirmaur in collaboration with Centre for Sustainability & Environmental Management at UBA adopted villages Kunja and Ajauli (Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur, HP) concluded today.
The training was organised under the guidance of Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director IIM Sirmaur.
Master Trainer for the sessions was Ranjit Singh who has specialized in organic farming. Dr. Devika Vashisht (UBA Coordinator) delivered the welcome address and talked on the problems related to organic farming, market availability and their impact on food consumption pattern.
The session in Kunja was attended by 18 farmers who got a vivid understanding for adoption of organic farming and their future benefits in their day-to-day farming activities, while the session in Ajauli was attended by 32 farmers who showed interest in understanding the concept and techniques of organic farming.
UBA members who attended the session were Prof. Amrinder Singh, Prof. Arpita Ghosh, Prof. Parul Malik and Prof. Rinki Dahiya.
The training was helpful for the farmers to produce higher yields of crops than the conventional farming methods.
Ranjit Singh explained the process of making different Jivamitra followed by the preparation of organic manure. He also explained the future use of organic manure and its implications in farms.
At the end it was discussed that adoption of organic farming would help the farmers in soil management, maintaining ecological balance and better returns.
Both sessions had question and answer session at the end.
A total of 50 farmers attended the two-day training programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur extended best wishes to the participants and the trainer. She also appreciated UBA team for their consistent efforts.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by the UBA Coordinator.
