JAMMU, Oct 1: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India took the first ever major initiative of associating itself with National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama i.e Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in organising ‘Meet the Director Programme’ at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
The programme featured 11 established theatre directors of the country who have created their own identities by evolving their respective signatures of theatre practice and performance. The directors who featured in this programme included Raj Kamal Naik of Raipur, Chattisgarh, Arjun Deo Charan of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Bansi Kaul of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Vinay Sharma of Kolkatta, West Bengal, Kewal Dhaliwal of Amritsar, Sanjay Lal of Ranchi, Jharkhand, Kachoo Ahmed of Kargil, Leh, Balwant Thakur of Jammu, Satish Kashyap of Hissar, Haryana, Zafar Sanjari of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and Jyoti Dogra of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The programme meet the director organised by ICCR Jammu which continued for five days was a part of a major event Natya Samagama- a national festival of contemporary theatre practices, traditions and diverse cultural expressions of India. The programme was ably coordinated by a senior theatre director of the State Deepak Kumar who also moderated its proceedings.
The most praiseworthy feature of the programme was its documentation for the achieves of National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama and its live webcast which was witnessed by the worldwide audience, thus projecting the unique thoughts of individual directors whose plays which viz ‘Alag Mulak Ka Bashinda (Hindi)’, ‘Jamleela (Hindi)’, Sidhi Dar Sidhi Urf Tukke Pe Tukka (Hindi)’, ‘Yahan (Hindi)’, ‘Bawa Jitto (Dogri)’, ‘Kanak Di Balli (Punjabi), ‘Sartaqs (The Border Line, Purgi)’, ‘Raja Vikrmaditya, Hindi Swang’, ‘Abhigyan Shakuntalam (Nagpuri)’, ‘Notes on Chai (Hindi-English)’ and ‘Babuji (Hindi)’ featured in Natya Samagama-2016.
