JAMMU, Sept 28: An 18-member Indian Air Force (IAF) cycling expedition from Kanyakumari to Kargil reached Jammu and proceeded towards Udhampur today as part of the IAF’s 94th anniversary celebrations and to pay tribute to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War.
The expedition is being conducted in three phases, with its concluding leg beginning from the National War Memorial, New Delhi, on September 22. It is scheduled to culminate at the Kargil War Memorial on October 8. Group Captain A.K. Singh, team leader, said the first two stages had already been completed.
The team departed from Maharaja Hari Singh Chowk at Tawi Bridge for Udhampur. Singh said the expedition was aimed at interacting with the younger generation, creating awareness about the role and functioning of the Air Force and inspiring youth towards the defence forces.
Despite challenges along the route, the team is continuing its journey towards Kargil, carrying the message of courage, sacrifice and service and paying tribute to the gallant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
