Srinagar, Sept 8: A militant was killed and a cop injured last night in a shootout at Achhabal in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district while gunmen killed a militant and an activist of separatist Hurriyat Conference today.
Militants last night attacked a police picket in Achhabal Anantnag. However, the attack was repulsed by the security guards on duty at the picket. One militant was killed and a cop was injured in the shoot out. A weapon was also recovered from the site of attack.
The killed militant has been identified as Bilal Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad Bhat from Tantraypora Yaripora of district Kulgam. Bilal had joined the LeT three months ago. Police said his involvement was established in a weapon snatching case earlier. He was involved in carrying out attacks on security forces in the area.
The injured cop was evacuated to the nearby hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable now. Police recovered two cars from the spot, which were used by the militants. Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation in the instant matter is in progress.
Gunmen this afternoon killed a Hurriyat Conference (G) activist in Bomai area of Sopore in North Kashmir. He has been identified as Hakim-ur-Rehman son of Nizamudin, resident of Reshipora Bomai.
Hakim, an activist of Hurriyat Conference (G), was critically injured in the attack that was carried out outside his house and was evacuated to the nearby hospital for medical treatment where he succumbed to injuries. Police has registered a case and investigations have been initiated.
Hakim, who is survived by his wife and four daughters was released a couple of weeks ago after serving two years in a jail in Kupwara on charges of stone-pelting. Separatists condemned the killing of the Hurriyat Conference leader.
Police today said that one IS-JK militant was killed in Hazratbal area of Srinagar. Identified as Asif Nazir Dar son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Panzgam Awantipora of Pulwama district he was killed by unknown gunmen this afternoon in Hazratbal area.
Police immediately reached the spot and recovered the body with one pistol, two magazines and a fake identity card.
Police said Asif was a member of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir outfit and was active since January last year. “Earlier, he was associated with Hizbul Mujahideen and later he became the top militant of ISJK”, police said.
A police spokesman, in a statement issued here, said that Asif was associated with Hizbul Mujahideen and later got associated with the Esa Fazili group of militants.
Protests broke out in Awantipora after the militant’s body reached his native village in Panzgam Awantipora.
Militants today fired at a car near Jamia Masjid, Pulwama, injuring a woman. She has been identified as Sumaira Jan, a resident of Saida Kadal Srinagar. She was shifted to Bone and Joints Hospital, Barzulla.
