Srinagar, Mar 7: Hundreds of youth turned up at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regimental Centre here at Old Air Field in Rengreth on city outskirts for the first phase of recruitment rally conducted by Army for candidates from Srinagar and Shopian districts for a total of 30 vacancies of soldiers (General Duty) at JAKLI here.
A defence spokesman said over 1500 candidates turned up collectively from both the districts to participate in the rally and all were given an opportunity to appear in the physical tests.
“The final result will be declared at the end of the recruitment rally. Joint security arrangements were made by the local Army Unit and police keeping in view the large representation in the last year’s recruitment rally conducted by the unit. Two Deputy Superintendents from Budgam district Headquarters, three Station House Officers and over 50 police personnel were deployed at the rally site along with the Army for the smooth conduct of the rally,” he said.
The spokesman said army is sensitive to the growing desire of Kashmiri youth to join Army and has started conducting recruitment in a phased manner. “The rallies for recruitment into all categories of the Army will be held in Sunjuwan in Jammu, Bandipora in Kashmir and Drass in Ladakh in the coming months,” he said.
The tentative dates for Sunjuwan recruitment rally for candidates from all districts are April 2 to April 18, the defence spokesman said, adding that at Bandipora the rally is planned from July 11 to 18 and for all districts except Leh and Kargil for which it has been scheduled from August 22 to August 25 at Drass.
“The Army offers a lifetime opportunity of adventure, education, progression besides dignity and self-esteem to a soldier as also to his family,” the defence spokesman added.
