JAMMU, Feb 14: J&K National Conference today asked the Lt Governor to honour the words of Union Home Minister by exempting the people who are eking out their livelihood and are dependent on these five to 15 marlas of State, irrigation, forest or Kacharai land, during the ongoing eviction drive.
In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta took serious note of the notices served to the shopkeepers and residential houses in Nai Basti area of Jammu in view of ongoing eviction drive. He said these people are residing in Nai Basti area for the last more than 50 years and paying their due rent to the concerned Government department from time to time.
Rattan Lal said that the continuation of eviction drive will only lead to creating an atmosphere of chaos and confusion across J&K. He appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to honour the assurance given by the Union Home Minister that small land holders / residential houses / small shopkeepers will not be harassed in the ongoing eviction drive.
