Home for Aged & Infirm celebrates birth anniversary of its founder

JAMMU, July 9: The management and inmates of Home for the Aged and Infirm (popularly known as Vridh Ashram) at Ambphalla, Jammu, today celebrated 119th birth anniversary of its founder Ram Nath Prabhakar.
On the occasion, management and inmates of the Old Age Home recalled the philanthropic works of Ram Nath Prabhakar and paid him rich tributes while cash incentives were also paid to each worker of the Home. The celebrations concluded with serving lunch to the invitees and inmates.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the Old Age Home and State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides, I D Soni threw light on the life of Ram Nath Prabhakar, who had retired as Head Master and devoted his life in service of the poor and aged destitute and infirm members of the society. He described Ram Nath Prabhakar as a great visionary who could foresee necessity of such a Home for aged and infirm persons in the ever changing society.
This institution was established on June 8, 1964 with mere one room on a piece of land obtained on lease from Ved Mandir Committee. The Home registered as a Society on February 20, 1965, now has emerged as a premier centre in the State for service to the old and infirm persons of the society. The Home now having two full fledged buildings facing each other across the road link from Ambphalla Chowk to Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital via Goushala, has the capacity to comfortably accommodate around ninety aged persons.
Speakers also appealed the general public to donate and pay frequent visits to this Home at their convenience and interact with the inmates.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, former Union Minister, Padma Shri S P Verma , Brig Harcharan Singh and representatives of other social organizations like J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, BaIl Balika Niketari Ved Mandir, Indian Red Cross Society, All J&K Senior Citizens Council, Help Age India, Sewa Bharti, Association for Social Health in India, Gao Raksha Samiti, J&K Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens, Bharat Vikas Parishad J&K as well as some donors besides Patron Prem Gupta, Vice President H S Manhas, Managing Committee Members, R C Vaid, Sakina Bano, Er Vijay Gupta and Dinesh Gupta, also participated in the function. Er Vijay Bhagotra, Honorary Secretary, conducted proceedings of the function.
