JAMMU, May 11: The Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir Government today sanctioned 607 posts for strengthening of the Anti-Infiltration Grid (Tier-II) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
An order to this effect was issued today by Additional Chief Secretary/ Financial Commissioner, Home Department, Raj Kumar Goyal.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the creation of 607 posts for strengthening of the Anti-Infiltration Grid (Tier-II) for 42 new Border Police Posts (BPPs) in Jammu and Kashmir,” the order issued by Goyal read.
The posts approved by the Home Department include 39 of Sub Inspectors, 50 Assistant Sub Inspectors, 88 Head Constables and 430 Selection Grade Constables (SGCT)/Constables.
New posts will go a long way in strengthening the Anti-Infiltration Grid as the Border Police Posts will get requisite manpower.
“The Border Police Posts have become significant as they are serving second line of defence behind the Border Security Force (BSF) on the International Border (IB) and Army on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir to check infiltration of militants, movement of drones and other undesirable activities of militants as well as drug smugglers,” sources said.
Out of 42 sanctioned Border Police Posts, many have already come up while others are in the process of being established by police.
The Border Police Posts are being set up depending on topography of the borders to plug infiltration routes of militants and drug smugglers, sources said.
The Police Border Posts are being set up in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region and Baramulla and Kupwara districts in the Kashmir valley.
