SRINAGAR, May 24: Police today busted a terrorist hideout and recovered a cache of explosive materials in Nilsar Kandi area of Chandoosa in Baramulla district.
A police spokesperson said that acting on a specific intelligence input generated by Police, a joint operation was launched by police along with 52 RR, CRPF 53 Battalion and SSB 2 Battalion on May 23, 2026.
“During the operation, security forces unearthed a concealed hideout and recovered 14 Soviet-made OG-7V fragmentation rounds meant for RPGs and nine PG-7P propellant charges/boosters packed in green plastic tubes”.
The spokesperson said the recovery averted a potential threat and marked a major success in the ongoing anti-terror operations in North Kashmir. “The operation continued for nearly six hours to completely sanitise the area and rule out any further threat”.
Later, the spokesperson said the recovered explosive material was examined by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of J&K Police and safely destroyed on the spot following standard safety procedures.
“In this connection, FIR No. 23/2026 under sections 4/5 Explosive Substances Act and 7/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa and further investigation has been taken up.”
