HC directs Govt to pay for treatment of acid attack victim

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: High Court today directed the State Government to bear the expenses for the treatment of a recent acid attack victim in Srinagar and asked media not to publish her name.
The Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey directed the State Government to bear the expenses required for the treatment of the acid attack victim. “The amount so required can be directly paid to the Hospital Authorities where the victim is undergoing treatment”, the DB said.
Court while hearing the acid attack PIL filed by Bar Association directed authorities as also the print and electronic media not to publish the name of victim.
Court also directed the Government to seek information from the hospital authorities as to how much amount has been spent and would require to be spent on the treatment of the victim.
Court also directed District Magistrates of all the districts of the state to ensure implementation of the judgment passed by Supreme Court and issue public notice in daily newspaper in view of the direction contained in the aforesaid judgment for the information of general public.
Counsel appearing for police authorities Reyaz Khan (AAG) submitted at Bar that an amount of Rs. 3 lakh has been paid to the father of the victim. He further submitted that the accused who are involved in the commission of heinous offence have been arrested.
“The investigation is going on and investigating officer needs further time to conclude the investigation of the case”, he said.
Court directed the investigating agency to conclude the investigation, preferably within four weeks and file the report before the competent court of jurisdiction immediately thereafter.
“The competent court of Jurisdiction shall take all steps for conducting expeditious trial in the case and Chief Secretary of the State to take all steps for providing complete treatment to the victim”, bench directed.
