HC denies bail to NDPSA convict

JAMMU, Dec 19: High Court today rejected the bail application of Joginder Singh, who has been convicted and awarded rigorous imprisonment for ten years along with fine of Rs 1,50,000 for the commission of offence punishable under NDPS Act.
After hearing Advocate Nitin Parihar for the applicant whereas Senior AAG CM Koul for the State, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur observed, “the instances of drug abuse and the cases that have been registered under the NDPS Act have seen a sudden spurt in the State of Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past which otherwise was not much exposed to such menace at such a large scale”.
“This court still could have considered the request of the applicant-appellant in case this court felt satisfied regarding the importance of the presence of the applicant in the ceremonies attached to the wedding of his brother. However, no such case has been made out by the counsel for the applicant at the stage of arguments nor can same be traced in the averments made in the application”, Justice Thakur said while rejecting the bail application.
