Hakla’s concern over plight of nomadic Gujjars

POONCH, Oct 14: Expressing serious concern over the plight of nomadic Gujjars and bakerwals who are deprived of basic amenities by the authorities, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and a scholar today urged the Government to provide all basic facilities to nomadic gujjars and Bakerwals in the State.
In a statement issued here, today he said that these hapless people are leading a miserable and hard life and being nationalists to core Government should take effective steps in providing benefits of all welfare schemes to them launched from time to time.
Hakla said that these people are guarding the borders of the country in the State and have also played a remarkable roll in this regard right from partition of the country. He said the problems of these hapless people have been compounded after the recent border skirmishes and a large number of families were displaced.
He demanded that these people be provided adequate compensation for the loss suffered due to their displacement. Hakla further appealed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to find an everlasting solution to the problem in Kashmir so that the people living on borders don’t get disturbed in future. He also demanded political reservations to the community in the State.
