SAMBA, Mar 15: Gurha Slathia Cricket Club defeated Akhnoor Cricket Club by a big margin of 74 runs in the Chichi Mata Cricket Championship, which got underway at Kehli Sports Ground, here today.
SHO Samba Suraj Singh Pathania was the chief guest on the inaugural ceremony, while Pawan Verma of Lions Club Samba, Rajul Singh, Raj Singh, Surinder Singh, Ritu Raj Singh and Lucky Sambal were the special guests.
Shanu Singh is the Organising Secretary of the Tournament.
Earlier, batting first, Gurha Slathia scored 164 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Akhil Salathia top scored with 43, while Rahil contributed 30 runs to the total.
In reply, Akhnoor CC bundled out for 90 runs, thus lost the match by 74 runs.
Majid top scored with 34 runs. Akhil Slathia was adjudged as the man of the match.
In another match on the opening day, Bhargava Cricket Club defeated Cadila Cricket Club by 37 runs.
Batting first, Bhargava CC scored 173 runs in 20 overs. Sachin scored 57 runs and Amit contributed 47 runs to the total. In reply, Cadila team managed to score 136 runs, thus lost the match by 37 runs.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that sports and games help youth to stay away from drugs and other allied social evils to not to derail from the mainstream.
