Gujjars still a deprived community: Haqla

JAMMU, Mar 14:  Demanding immediate benefits of  ST status to nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals in the State Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi a senior Gujjar leader of the State has alleged that the community has been till date deprived of the full benefits of ST status.
In a statement issued here today he said though ST Status to the community in the State was granted in April 1991 but after passing 23 years it has not been implemented in letter and spirit. The community is still lagging in various spheres of life and is far behind than others.
He said Gujjars who are a nationalist force in the State and have always championed the national cause and guarded its borders deserve fair deal and the efforts be made for the upliftment of the community by extending full reservation benefits to it.
He urged the Government to take appropriate action for continuance of reservations in promotions to government employees belonging to SC/ ST, RBA, ALC and other privileged classes (Social Caste).
Mr Haqla said reservation is need of the hour and a necessity to uplift the weaker sections of the society and for the progress and rapid development of the State and country. He accused the PDP-BJP which coalition for doing nothing for the benefit of Government employees belonging to weaker sections of the society.
