SRINAGAR, July 17:
A guard of State Bank of India was arrested by the police on charges of looting an ATM of more than Rs 23 lakhs at Dalgate, police spokesman said today.
Manager of the SBI Branch, Boulevard, Peerzada Muzaffar Hussain reported the matter to police station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar.
ATM was looted by some unidentified burglars and cash worth Rs 23,19,400 has been stolen, stated an FIR.
During the course of investigation bank employees, ATM engineer and ATM security guards were questioned.
Deputy Inspector General of Police S A Mujtaba supervised the investigation of the case.
A security guard Syed Ishfaq Shah was put to sustained questioning.
On interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he managed the pass word being used by bank employees at the time of replenishing of cash.
On his instance Rs 21,55,600 were recovered from the lawn of his house situated at Ohangam-Beerwah, Budgam.
Further investigation is still going on, Mr Mujtaba added. (UNI)
