Groom’s sister killed, 12 hurt

JAMMU, Oct 4: A mini-bus carrying ‘baratis’ turned turtle near Canal Head in Jammu, resulting into death of groom’s sister and injuries to 12 ‘baratis’.
According to the reports, a mini-bus bearing registration number JK21-1075 turned turtle on MH Road near Canal Head at about 11:45 last night, when it was carrying ‘baratis’ back to Rara (Vijaypur, Samba) from Manguchak on the outskirts of Jammu after attending the wedding ceremony.
In the mishap, 13 ‘baratis’ including groom’s sister namely Babli Devi wife of Devinder Kumar, resident of Birpur, got injured while the driver of the mini-bus fled from the spot. The injured persons were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu where Babli Devi was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
The dead body of the deceased woman was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites after completion of all legal formalities while other 12 injured persons were undergoing treatment.
The injured were identified as Geeta Devi wife of Rashpal Chand of Rajwal (Ramgarh) and her daughter Krishna Devi, Shakuntla Devi wife of Jaswant Raj of Jallochak, Vijay Kumar son of Mani Ram of Purmandal Morh, Darshan Lal son of Mewa Ram of Rara (Vijaypur) and his wife Beena Devi, Ravi Kumar son of Babu Ram of Samba and her daughter Shavu alias Gudia, Devinder Kumar son of Hans Raj of Vijaypur, Santosh Kumari wife of Sagar Chand of Rara, Khushboo daughter of Darshan Lal of Rara and Devi Rani wife of Ravi Kumar of Samba.
A case in this connection was registered at police station Nowabad and further investigation started while a manhunt was launched to nab the absconding mini-bus driver.
