POONCH, Nov 20: An impressive Special Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Gram Sabha was held under comprehensive district SVEEP programme to enhance awareness among the electorate about the importance of voting and to motivate them for greater participation in the forthcoming general elections to Legislative Assembly in village Dhargloon here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Election Officer, M H Malik highlighted the importance of elections and voting in a democracy and appealed to the Gram Sabha to inform and motivate everyone to cast their vote in the elections. He particularly requested the Panchs, Sarpanchs, ASHA and Anaganwari workers to use their influence to motivate the villagers to freely exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Reminding them of the duty to ensure participation in the democratic process, the DEO said every one has a corresponding duty and the time has come when we perform our duty to strengthen the democratic system by exercising our right to vote.
He exhorted the students to act as ambassadors and disseminate the message of importance of electoral participation for stronger democracy and asked them to press their parents to cast their vote on the 2nd of December. The DEO requested the ASHA and Aanganwari workers to motivate the women folk to exercise their right to vote freely.
Senior Superintendent of Police, J S Johar assured a free and secure environment and appealed to the participants to cast their vote without any fear.
Nodal Officer, SVEEP Poonch, Dr. Zakir Hussain along with Prof. Anwar Khan, Prof. Haroon Rathore and other members of SVEEP team, gave motivational speeches and inspired and motivated the Sabha to take part in the ensuing ‘Jashn-e-Jamhoor”.
