New Delhi, Apr 30: Minister for Transport Sunil Sharma paid visit to SRTC Office at ISBT and Tees Hazari here today and reviewed the functioning of these offices besides the facilities being provided to the passengers.
Minister also inspected head office of JKSRTC at ISBT New Delhi and directed the concerned officers to maintain proper office records and submit quarterly report to the headquarters.
He directed the concerned to ensure plying of buses from New Delhi to Katra on daily basis to facilitate the pilgrims visiting the Holy Cave shrine. Interacting with the staff in these offices, the Minister exhorted upon the field functionaries of SRTC to work with dedication for providing better services to the passengers. He asked the concerned staff to ensure frequent checks of the buses on different roads for plugging in the revenue loses. “The Government would not tolerate any kind of corruption in the Corporation and officials found indulging in any such practice will be dealt sternly”, the Minister cautioned.
Minister asked the authorities to prepare a perspective plan for optimal management and utilization of prime assets of Corporation to enhance revenue generation. He called for comprehensive proposal for commercial exploitation of all potential sources of revenue to make the Corporation a profitable enterprise.
Minister said that for strengthening the network of corporation about 1000 new buses would be added shortly for the convenience of the public. He further said that two new driving institutes and vehicle testing centers would be set up at Srinagar and Jammu soon.
Minister directed the officers for computerization of office and submit proposal for operation of new AC luxurious buses from Srinagar and Katra to New Delhi for the convenience of public. Liaison officer Surinder Singh Jamwal accompanied the Minister.
“The computerization of records will reduce the level of corruption in the departments. It will not only smoothen the functioning of the Transport Department, but also help it and the local police to handle the cases of violations,” he added.
