SRINAGAR, Aug 20: Former minister and General Secretary, National Conference (NC) Ali Muhammad Sagar today said that the recent move of the J&K Waqf Board under which a ban has been imposed on the collection of donations at shrines has hurt the religious sentiments of people and that the Government needs to stop interfering in the religious matters.
Addressing a press conference here, Sagar said that those who are being respected in the society, are being termed as thieves, “something that has hurt the sentiments of people while the Government needs to refrain from such measures,” he said.
He said that they are trying to defame the Muslims including those who are working or associated with the shrines.
“We fail to understand what they are thinking but it is a sheer interference in religious matters and it needs to stop immediately,” he said.
NC senior leader said that those who are responsible for committing violations should be brought to the book.
“If there are any such people, we are not here to defend them, they need to be booked; but in contrast, a general narrative is being created that all these people are bad, something that needs to end.”
