JAMMU, July 6: Former MLA, Ramban and a senior Congress leader Ashok Kumar has strongly protested against the National Highway Authority of India(NHAI), Gammon India Ltd (GIL) and District Administration Ramban and demanded rehabilitation and proper compensation for the people of Dalwas (Ramban).
He pointed out that on March 28, 2020, about 40 houses and 400 Canal of Agriculture land had been completely damaged due to cutting of mountain slopes unscientifically and deploying non-technical and unexperienced people in the process of construction of four lane National Highway-44 by Gammon company. It has been established that Gammon has further sublet the work to a local contractor from Jammu who too, has no expertise in the field.
It is pertinent to mention that even after 3 months these people are still deprived of tents, rents, utensils, blankets, kerosene oil, light systems and other essential items for their daily livelihood. Ashok said that it is very unfortunate and painful to see that these beleaguered people of Dalwas have lost every earning of their lives and are homeless and landless.
Ex-MLA further said that unscientific construction of National Highway four lane project is the root cause of the devastation and it’s the biggest man-made disaster on National Highway-44 between the stretch of Udhampur to Banihal. The concerned companies also dumped huge muck below the village and it has also caused sinking of land.
The Congress leader has stressed upon the Government that all damaged houses amount and land cost should be given by the Companies who have caused this big sinking zones and triggered landslides. District Administration Ramban should also take this matter seriously and provide all possible help in terms of food, shelter and essential commodities, blankets and other essential things on war footing.
Ashok strongly demanded that separate plots for 40 affected families should be immediately provided at suitable place so that they can construct their new houses. In addition, rehabilitate these affected families at suitable places for their survival in upcoming winters along with transparent and proper compensation.
Ex-MLA said that some emergency treatment should be given to the whole Dalwas area with the experts of Geology and Hi-tech engineers for smooth construction of NH-44.
