Govt missing from ground, caught unprepared to deal with situation: Mir

SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Stating that administration  was missing from ground and  caught unprepared to deal with the situation, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president G A  Mir today lashed out at the Government over its failure to deal with the situation post snowfall.
“The weather department had already predicted snowfall on January 6 and 7. However, despite that the Government was not ready to deal with the situation. On Friday, snow couldn’t be cleared from even main arterial roads, not to speak of interior lanes and by-lanes,” he said.
Terming the Government’s approach as insensitive the State Congress chief said, “It was not for the first time that snowfall occurred in Kashmir. This is routine in Kashmir every winter. The authorities failed to press men and machinery to clear the snow on roads thereby putting the lives of commuters at risk. This Government has now failed completely and people are the worst victims of it.”
“Even the roads leading to main hospitals in Srinagar and other districts remained buried under the snow despite the Government having all the necessary machinery at its disposal,” he added.
Mir said that the failure was even acknowledged by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti herself when she had to remind the administration over its failure to clear snow from the roads. “The massive traffic jams and skidding of vehicles due to a few inch of snow speaks volumes about Government’s failure,” he said.
Mir said due to the snowfall the power crisis in Kashmir has also worsened. “While people were already grappling with massive curtailment and unscheduled power cuts, snow has compounded their problems,” he said and asked the Government to wake up from deep slumber and restore the essential services without any further delay.
The PCC chief questioned the ruling PDP and BJP of their promises made with the people during elections. “Where has ‘change’ and ‘ache din’ slogans of the two alliance partners gone? Instead of ‘ache din’ people are witnessing ‘bure din’ due to the wrong policies of PDP-BJP Government,” he said.
