Govt keen to strengthen, upgrade sports infra: Bhalla

JAMMU, Oct 13: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla said that the Government was expanding advanced sports edifice in the state with focus on rural and remote pockets.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a large gathering of those who witnessed the wrestling competition organized by Dussehra Shinj Committtee, R S Pura at Bana Singh Stadium, here today.
Around 10,000 wrestling lovers were present in the stadium and witnessed the wrestling competition (Dangal) at the venue.
During the competition, the wrestlers from various States like Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and hosts Jammu and Kashmir participated.
On the occasion, the first winner wrestler was awarded with Rs 50,000 while second with LCD and third with Rs 21000 respectively by the Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla praised the organizers for conducting such type of event which will help the State wrestlers to further improve their skills. These events also help in promoting friendly relationship among the people of different cultures and traditions. He hoped that committee will continue such type of efforts to encourage the sports talent in the State.
The Minister highlighted various reformative steps having taken up by the Government in making available all necessary sports facilities to the players of the State especially those living in rural and far-off pockets.
He said that the Government was also initiating various measures to promote rural conventional sports of the State.
Mr Bhalla said that massive sports infrastructure has been created across the State over past years to revive the sports culture in the State and groom talent of the youth. He said Government was making all efforts to organize more sports events at districts level as it helps to tap the available talent.
He further said there was no dearth of talent in the State and the need is to provide the youth an opportunity to exhibits their hidden talent.
The Minister said Government has started several mega projects to strengthen and upgrade sports infrastructure adding funds worth crores of rupees have been earmarked for construction of stadiums in tehsil and district levels so that sports lovers could get sports education in their respective districts so as to compete in the national and international events.
