SRINAGAR, July 7: Asserting that the Government has put in place an effective and viable mechanism for ensuring the sustained and need based development of the State, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that besides putting in place a vibrant Panchayati Raj System (PRS) for accelerating the developmental process, effective decentralization of powers to these institutions has also been ensured.
The Minister was addressing a public gathering at Watlab Sopore after inaugurating four Panchayat Ghars at Watlab, Rashidabad, Edipora- A and Edipora-B respectively. He was accompanied by MLA Sopore, M.A. Ganai, Director Rural Development, Kashmir, Mir Altaf Ahmed and other senior officers of the district administration and Rural Development Department.
The Minister said that it has been the endeavour of the Government to ensure that the infrastructural capacity building of the PRS is ensured and in this regard several Panchayat Garhs have been constructed across the State, so that the necessary augmentation of the same is ensured. He said that due care has been taken to fully empower the Panchayats with powers of 14 vital departments and a senior officer has been nominated to monitor the same.
Mr Sagar said that the people are fully aware of the developmental process initiated by the Government for ensuring needs based and sustained development of the State. These developmental initiatives have changed the socio-economic profile of the rural and far flung areas and the state as a whole, he said.
“Some parties are trying to mislead the people by spreading falsehood, flouting obnoxious ideas and hypocrisy. But the people are wise enough to understand their machinations and will give a befitting reply to them in next elections, he maintained.
The Minister also directed the officers for preparing a comprehensive DPR for beautification and expansion of the revered shrine of Baba Shakru -ud-Din including construction of a sarai for the devotees coming to pay their obeisance. He also announced Rs. 1 crore under MGNREGA for desilting, dredging and beautification of the Budshah Khul at Bomai and directed the Assistant Commissioner Development, Baramulla to initiate action in this regard.
