Govt to enact Street Vendors Act, 2016: Asiea Naqash

SRINAGAR, June 30: Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Asiea Naqash today informed that Government is in process of enacting the ‘J&K Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2016’ on the pattern of ‘Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood & Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014’ of Government of India.
Replying to a clubbed question of Sofi Mohammad Yousuf, Mohammad Khursheed Alam and Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, the Minister said the draft of the Bill has been vetted by the Law Department and a Cabinet Memo stands prepared for Cabinet approval. She said once the Bill is passed by the State Legislature, the Act shall come into force.
The Minister informed that Phase-I of Parking Project General Bus Stand Jammu shall be completed soon. She said project is being constructed within the area of the said Bus Stand and no portion of Indra Chowk is being utilized for this purpose.
The Minister said there is no shop occupied illegally/un-authorizedly on the road leading to Indira Chowk from General Bus Stand Jammu. She said there are some business units (Khokhas) which are running at Indira Chowk in the Municipal Market and are yet to be regularized.
Asiea Naqash said as many as 142 shops in the main parking areas have been identified to be affected. She said that 75 shops shall be relocated in under construction ISBT Narwal and the rest 67 shops shall be relocated within the New Bus Stand Building after completion of its construction.
